Welcome to Orchard Beginner! Recipes is one of the most useful feature in Orchard. Orchard Recipes allow you to setup your site with additional pre-configured options, features and settings out of the box. Orchard simplifies the process of setting up a new website by letting you use website recipes. A recipe is an XML file that contains the start-up configuration for an Orchard website. When you start Orchard for the first time, you can select a recipe that best matches the type of site you want to set up.
For example, if you want your website to be a blog, you can select the Blog recipe, and much of the configuration work will be done for you.
By default Orchard provides 3 Recipes :
- Default Recipe
- Blog Recipe
- Core Recipe
1. Default Recipe
The default recipe for an Orchard site that includes pages, blogs, custom content types, comments, tags, widgets and basic navigation.
Modules and Features like pages, blogs, custom content types, comments, tags, widgets and basic navigation will be enabled by default for the Default Recipe.
2. Blog Recipe
A recipe providing the features you need for a personal blog site.
Modules and Features like pages, blogs, comments, tags, widgets and basic navigation will be enabled by default for the Blog Recipe.
3. Core Recipe
A recipe providing only the core Orchard framework, with limited end-user functionality. This is useful for development scenarios.
Modules and Features like pages, basic navigation and user management will be enabled by default for the Core Recipe.
Core Recipe is more often to be used by an Orchard Developer and not an Orchard User.
